This Week: The Wedding Reception
A few weeks ago a friend asked me to be a third photographer for her on a wedding. I have always said that I would never shoot a wedding because I am not good with people, but this was different. I was mainly asked to photograph details and atmosphere of the spaces that were being used and that is right up my alley. Plus I trusted the photographer and her partner and knew that anything I took would just be in addition to their usual photographs. It was the perfect assignment and gave me a chance to add it to my list of things I've done.
One of the best parts of this assignment was getting to go into the Magnolia Ballroom. This wonderful space and the building it is in is the last remanent of a once dominant company in Houston at the turn of the century. The Houston Ice & Brewing Company was so expansive it was built over the bayou and expanded to 10 connected buildings. I've always wanted to go inside, but it is only open for private events.
